Jackson Beck
WALLY BURR (2003): "We were trying to find someone who had been in the business for a long time and whose voice could keep people in suspense. Jackson fit the bill perfectly. He gave an excellent air of experience when he recorded the intro narration, as well as increasing the excitement with his suspenseful, desperate sound during the recaps. Even the sound engineers wanted to know what happened next!!"
Jackson Beck was very important to the G.I. Joe franchise. From the toy commercials to the animated cartoon, Beck's voice was always heard during the introductory sequence of the show all the way until DiC's Operation Dragonfire. He was also the announcer of the second MBS run of the iconic 1940's "The Adventures of Superman" as well as the voice of Bluto in the Famous Studios "Popeye" cartoons.
The first G.I. Joe commercial marks the only time that Mr. Beck played a character. He played General Austin in the commercial.
Sadly, Mr. Beck passed away in 2004 at the age of 92.
