Ed Gilbert
WALLY BURR (2003): "I selected Ed due to his personality. He was quite intelligent, both intellectually and emotionally, and he was also someone who could help you in any possible way. He was the real synonym of the word 'friend'. He would talk to you, he would go out with you, and I even remember sometimes he would bring some of his fellow voice actors, and save them from being late to the recording session. A very nice guy."
GREGG BERGER (2003): "Ed was one of the most intelligent guys I have ever met. He had a love for insects and he also liked to discover and name new species. I remember overhearing him talking to two co-workers, I think it was Ed Flanders and Loren Lester, about his discoveries. He also taught me a lot of things about acting and he also seemed to have a somewhat fatherly element about him. He was a great guy, a great teacher and a great friend."
A very brilliant person, according to his fellow voice actors, Ed Gilbert was also one of the most talented people in the phase of the Earth. He had a very distinctive deep voice, and a very fatherly, commanding yet warm voice that defined him accurately. His performance as Hawk was one of the greatest voice performances I've ever heard. He was also quite a good singer and a very respected ethymologist (In fact, he discovered and named quite a few insects).
His G.I. Joe characters:
-Hawk (Regular Voice)
His Transformers characters:
-Blitzwing
-Superion (Regular Voice)
-Thrust
Gilbert played another memorable character in G.I. Joe, and that was Reverend Steen (Lifeline's father) in the episode Second Hand Emotions. It was a very charming and emotional performance, especially when he and his son decide to accept their differences and live with them.
Unfortunately, Mr. Gilbert passed away in 1999 at the age of 67. But his legacy will remain, as long as we remember his work and his passion for it.
